Frankly, at this point in my current learning career, I don’t even know if I really want to get into film, and even if I did I really have no clue what I would want to do. I’ve found all of the discussions interesting in some regard, despite having almost no knowledge as to the workings or difference of older film cameras. A lot of terminology is going over my head. However, I’m hoping we’ll head into a more digital realm sometime, as I find that to be more useful overall. How o we keep things up to date? How often should digital media be ported? In the past 20 years, digital media has accelerated so much, media from only a decade ago has already been lost due to loss of support for specific platforms, or hardware neglecting the need, or rather, lack thereof, to be able to run older software. I’m currently working with animation and 3D modeling, so I am particularly interested in how to keep these works from swiftly losing their relevancy via new (soft)(hard)ware turning it obsolete. Although I guess it’s part of the job to learn how to keep things updated, or just to learn the new software in general. Anyways the readings have been really hit or miss with me so far. I could barely scrape through The Gray Zone. Combining my lack of film knowledge and frankly, my lack of investment within the media of film, I wasn’t able to absorb anything from it. Like holy shit ~40 pages about the color gray? I don’t have the bandwidth to absorb all that. I did enjoy BB optics interview with Bill Brand, and being able to speak with him later. I found that to be quite engaging, but I really don’t have any questions for our Skype calls because… I just don’t know enough about the medium as a whole. Film preservation handbook is pretty interesting too. Those two readings were presented in particularly interesting ways, being an interview and a handbook; I think textbook and articles types just make me want to die. They’re so boringly written. I don’t think I did a good enough job washing out my water bottle because I taste soap in my mouth.
